History – How It Started | Mullet’s Aluminum Products Inc.

History

Founded in 1978 by Butch Mullet in the garage behind his home, providing residential soffit, fascia, and aluminum gutter installation services, Mullet’s Aluminum has grown into one of the largest manufacturers of architectural aluminum metals in the Southeastern US, one of the region’s largest metal roofing manufacturers; and has remained one of the region’s largest metal roofing contractors and window and door installation contractors.

In 1980, the company moved into its first commercial warehouse building at 905 Ponder Avenue in Sarasota, FL. It later forged a relationship with a new local manufacturing company, Progressive Glass Technologies (now known as PGT Innovations), to provide window installation services for residential homes. Mullet’s Aluminum was among the first dealers for PGT and continues to be one of their largest dealers in the US. PGT is a publicly-traded company and is recognized as the world’s largest manufacturer of hurricane impact-resistant windows and doors.

In 1987, as the company grew, Mullet’s Aluminum added an office to the original warehouse and began fabricating and installing residential pool cages and screen enclosures. A few years later – metal roofing and aluminum railing was added to the company’s growing portfolio of products and services offered to residential homeowners and builders in the Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte County area.

In 1997, the company built a new warehouse and manufacturing facility at 5454 Palmer Blvd. in Sarasota, FL – conveniently located directly across the street from the office.

In 2004 when Hurricane Charlie made direct landfall just south of Sarasota, none of the pool cages, screen enclosures, metal roofs, or residential homes with impact windows – installed by Mullet’s Aluminum – suffered any significant damage. This is a testament to “The Mullet’s Aluminum Difference” and our team “taking the extra steps” to ensure that things are done correctly.

In 2007, with a reputation for quality workmanship and superior customer service, the company began to explore the condominium and commercial markets. In a very short period of time, the company started manufacturing products and working for many of the largest commercial contractors in the Southeastern US and property management companies in the region.

As the company continued to grow and expand – in 2014 – Mullet’s Aluminum moved its manufacturing and corporate headquarters to its current location at 6345 McIntosh Road, Sarasota, FL. With over 100,000 sq. ft of manufacturing, warehouse, and office space on 10 acres of land, the company was able to increase its manufacturing capability further to meet market and customer demand.
